3M's: Make, Model, Modifications.
Thousands of cars are manufactured year round to supply the growing demand in the industry, however no two cars will be the same as each owner will modify to its own personal need and taste. People con lower cars, lift them, add bigger rims, special exhaust systems, dually, extended beds, and so many other things that change the body of the car drastically. First step to prep your car for transportation is describing as much as possible any significant job done to your car to your booking agent, this way she can accommodate your car for a safe and proper transport service. Your agent will advised towards what type of carrier will needed or if anything else needs to be done such as removing add-ons that can easily fall out or get damaged along the way. Roof top light bars can add significant height to a vehicle and might need to be removed before transport to avoid damages or even to fit the car on the carrier.
Gas Tank Levels.
Some carriers are very strict with weight numbers when transporting a car, therefore it is very important to make sure if there are any specifications as to the gas tank being completely full or 3/4 full. Most carriers recommend to empty to gas tank down to 3/4 to avoid unnecessary weight issues as carriers need to keep weight clearance on the road to avoid fines. If a carrier is overweight it can cause many inconveniences, not only as far as fines, however it can also cause delays as some roads are very strict and will not allow the carrier to continue until weight is lowered. This may mean to lower a car and have another take the car to its final destination. This will cause delays and break the premeditated driver's schedule and jobs.
Fix the Leak!
Inoperable cars can also be transported from one place to another as long as the car has wheels and rolls. Most carriers are equipped to handle these type of cars and be able to ship them, therefore it is important you tell your agent what is the issue with the car to make sure they have the proper equipment for pickup and delivery. Most inoperable or old cars may have many issues with them, however it is very important to check your car for leaks as this may be a reason for a cancellation by driver. Leaks can be harmful for the other cars on the carrier as the wind can blow it back and damage car paint, windshields and the carrier itself.
Wash your car before pickup
Before cars are picked up it is very important you wash your car and take pictures to check for scratches, dents and any damages. This will help you keep control of the state the car is in before pickup and after delivery. In the case any damages occur along the way this will help you determine whether anything happened during transit and file insurance claims with proper evidence.
Do not pack up your car!
Car transport companies are not moving companies! Do not pack up your car with personal belongings only because your car is transported. Insurance policies only cover for the car not personal belongings and this is considered an insurance liability as personal belongings become a target for theft. This not only can put your car in danger but also the driver and other cars on carrier. Besides safety issues, packing your car up adds up to the overall weight of the carrier cutting of the possibilities to fill the spots in the carrier to create full loads.
